Homelessness

MISCONCEPTION was designed from a textile point of view focussing on hand embroidery to bring a garment to life. The meaning behind the dress is to bring awareness to the homeless. On the dress she wears the thoughts and statements said about her being homeless, yet it is disguised beneath the glitz and glam of the outter shell of the dress. The saying "don't judge a book by its cover", is something i focussed on when making this. Hidden beneath layers of silk are hand embroidered words such as tramp, get a job etc. The reason for such a glamorous dress was so that people actually take their time to look closer at the hidden details, in this case the ugly words that a homeless person may endure. Therefore people ask questions and we start discussing the bigger issue that is homelessness.
